message from kat icon This is WHY you probably haven't seen me around lately...

So I’m in Chicago at the airport, on my way back to the City of Angels...

Finally, a little time to breathe and type this out before we board...

I can’t express enough how CRAZY these past few months have been! I feel like I haven’t been able to keep as much contact with you guys as I’d like to, but a lot of that has to do with the many projects I have taken on; some that have been in the works for quite some time now...

Regardless, it’s never a dull moment for me it seems, between tattooing my ass off at the shop to flying back and forth for one reason or another.

My two main projects coming up have probably taken up most of my time, trying to make everything perfect and meeting everyone’s crazy deadlines ... :) For the past 6 months, I have been working diligently on MY BOOK with Harper Colins..

This book is in no way a biography or anything... I know it seems like everyone and their mothers have been coming out with biographies lately and I for one think I have a little bit of living and learning left to do before I am in any way ready for a book like that!

My book can be best described as a pictorial timeline of my life thus far as an artist.

My mother was amazing enough to save any and all of my drawings from when I was 6 years old to my first tattoo, to doodles I’ve done on napkins while talking on the phone! So I figured it would be cool to layout my life in an artistic form...

Going through old photos, I found the very first tattoo I ever did at the age of 14, as well as photos of me tattooing at that age and all the silly hairstyles I rocked in between!

Although there will be actual text throughout the book (yes, reading is good, too!) it’s prominently an art book. Art in every medium from a 2 pencil to watercolor, charcoal, photography, oil paintings and every style of tattooing; not just from me, but from my heroes and mentors from all over...

Completing a lot of these larger scale projects and never before seen tattoos has become so time consuming, in order for them to heal, get photographed, submitted, edited, blah blah blah.. Being obsessive compulsive doesn’t help the process go any faster either!

After all is said and done, the hardest part of this book will be coming up with a goddamn title!! AAAHhhhhh! I think ANYTHING but the words "Kat Von D" would make a cool title...

what do you guys think?
any ideas?

I thought maybe the words: "The World of High Voltage Tattooing", or maybe "Tattoo Your Soul" in Old English would look cool on the cover of a book... but I don’t know...

Regardless, I’ll keep you guys updated as to the status of this book through these blogs as well as mini clips of the process.

LOVE YOU ALL!!

message from kat icon SEASON FINALE!!!! AAAAHHHHH!!!!
+ Posted by V.P Steph on 02 Apr 2008 | Comment 0 | Permalink
Man! It's so crazy to finally get to this Season's Finale...

For those of you who've watched along the way, you know how much of an emotional roller coaster it's been!

A lot of you came to my first time ever music/tattoo convention, MUSINK, a month back... and now, we get to watch the final product in a nutshell on this week's new episode!!

Aside from the amount of people from all over the world that came to be a part of MUSINK, I was so overwhelmed by the amount of TALENT at this show...

I mean, walking down each aisle, you'd see everyone from Nikko, Jack Rudy, Kore Flatmo, to Luke Atkinson, Bob Tyrell and everyone else tattooing their asses off and making some of the most beautiful tattoos... overall, such a much needed reminder of how tattooing still hasn't lost it's magic, and how happy I am to be a part of that world...

Not to mention the talent that went on musically, every night! Fireball Ministry, Vains of Jenna, Metal Skool ( now re-named STEEL PANTHER), Tiger Army, The Used, and so on... the energy was INSANE!

As wasted as I used to get, you could never get me to Karaoke. No fuckin' way! But somehow... Steel Panther was able to get not only me, but Hannah, Kim and Corey on drums, on stage in front of thousands of people and do a Kinks song.. but the Van Halen way, of course!!

Basically, I just wanted to take the time to thank all of those who came out and supported MUSINK.

This was my first time being a part of something like this, and to be able to meet so many of you and watch MUSINK become such a success the way it did, I think I may just take this show on the ROAD across America!!

What do you think? Seriously..

Here's a little clip that someone in the audience shot... not the best quality, but if you listen closely, check out how DOWN Hannah gets when she sings!! I think we all pooped our pants when we discovered her voice!

I cannot begin to tell you how disgusted and disappointed i am with the recent rumors that started circulating around town, all of which are COMPLETELY FALSE.

Against the advice of my publicist, agent, and others, I have decided to be completely open and honest about the following, because you guys deserve that:

For quite some time, on my personal website, I had a section for "Autograph Requests". At any time, ANYONE could go on there, type in their name and mailing address, and my assistant and I would send you an 8x10 photograph of me signed, free of charge. Honestly, we started getting an average about 2,000 per day, and couldn't keep up, so we took that option down. Now, when people send us gifts to the shop, fan art, or write us from jail, we send out an autographed 8x10, usually personalized as a gesture of thanks and appreciation. Anyone, could get their hands on one of these 8x10s.

Unfortunately, one of these 8x10's got in the hands of an evil, insecure, and spiteful person, who thought it would be a good idea to FORGE this kind of trash.

For those of you that HAVE received signed 8x10's from me in the past, you can CLEARLY see that this is a slanderous case of FORGERY, FRAUD, and attempt at getting attention.

I worked at Miami Ink for quite some time, before friction began between Ami (the owner) and I started, all of which was fueled by insecurity, jealousy, and lack of work ethic, ALL ON HIS PART. After endless counts of trying to make it work, it was clear that shit wasn't working out, and we all decided it was best to go our ways. I guess the old saying is true, "You can't shake hands with a fist."
But I always saw this as a positive new beginning... for the both of us! NEVER, have i wished the Miami Ink crew any harm - quite the opposite. In every interview after me leaving Miami, up until this very day, I always say how its a bummer things didn't work out, and even though I don't stay in contact with any of the guys, I wish them the best. And personally, I'm not the kind of girl that could harbor bad feelings inside. That always ends up making you a miserable human being, and i refuse to be that person. Shit happens, and you move on.

I did move on, and really focused on my tattooing, new shop, new crew, family, and myself. Consequently, La Ink was a success, and all the hard work truly paid off. But while everyone around us was supportive and happy for us, jealousy and fear grew in others, causing a feeling of desperation. The next thing you know this fake 8x10 thing pops up, with much surprise to me. I mean, the first time I saw the actual photo with the writing on it, I almost puked, considering, those are things I would NEVER even think about, let alone write! After serious investigation, all conclusions proved that it was NOT ME who wrote that junk.

And to think, the people I once loved and cared for like family, are the ones responsible for all of this. I've heard about strategic press, like a sex tape before the launch of a new season "magically" surfacing to the public, BUT THIS IS TRULY A SAD, SAD ATTEMPT.

I am in no way, planning on discussing this topic any further with press, and refuse to feed into this drama. this is what they want, attention. But I have always felt like my MySpace was a place where true fans go, and we can stay connected through my blogs and bulletins. This is why I feel this inclined to let you guys be aware of the truth.

Personally, I STILL don't wish anything bad upon the REAL culprit in this crime, but hope that one day, they come to the realization that living a life fueled by hatred will only make them unhappy in the end.

Thanks for those of you who took the time to listen to me, and continue to support everything good that we are trying to get across, because from the bottom of my heart, i love EVERYONE.

Yours truly,

Kat Von D

Tattoo Laser REMOVAL!! AAAAHHH!!!!

A long time ago, I thought getting your tattoos removed by laser removal was totally lame! I thought that it defeated the entire purpose of getting tattooed. Tattoos are meant to be permanant, and if you're thinking of getting one, you better be 100%.
When laser removal came out, I remember wishy-washy walkin' into shops saying, "Well, if I don't like it, I can always remove it..." But I think people with that menatlity shouldn't be getting tattooed in the first place.

This subject came up, since tonight's episode will show one of us getting tattoo removal done and one of us chickening out too!! Hopefully it will shed some light on the subject, because I know a lot of you out there might be wondering about how removing your tattoo works...

I got my first tattoo when I was 14 years old, and at the time, I didn't care so much what it looked like, I just wanted to get tattooed SO BAD, and no one would do it since I was underage, and rightfully so! So I had my "homie" do a bunch of total crap on my entire upper left arm. At the time, I was so stoked just to have any tattoos, and looked past the fact that the tattoo I got actually sucked so bad..
Years later, as I got better at tattooing and started seeing what good tattoos really look like, and should look like, it became pretty hard to wake up to this mess on my left arm, and started looking into getting laser removal, since it was too large and too dark to cover up.

After 5 super fast, but super painful sessions with my dermatolagist, the ugly tattoo faded enough for me to be able to go over it with a beautiful one, and I am truly happy now.

At 21, I got married after only knowing my now EX husband for about 2 months. During our short 3 years married, I managed to get his name tattooed on my neck, my knuckles, my leg several times, and a portrait on my thigh that I have to look at everytime I go pee.

Normally, I don't care about that stuff, considering my first tattoo was the initial of my first time love. Since then I've acquired lots of names, some friends, some ex's and they dont bother me at all. Those people played important parts in my life, and I could look back at each and everyone of them, and think of the good times and what not.

But honestly, my marriage didn't end as peaceful as I would have liked it to, and it started bothering me, the fact that every time my boyfriend kisses my neck, my ex's name is there... and everytime I see a photo of me in a bathing suit, or skirt, there he is again, for everyone, including myself to see.
So I decided I wanna get those tattoos removed, and covered with something new. I mean, no matter what you do, those memories never go away, and even if you attempt at covering these tattoos with new ones, YOU will always know that somewhere under there is that tattoo... but man! it would be nice not have to look at his mug all the time...

I asked a bunch of my friends their thoughts on the matter, and this is what they had to say... pretty f*ckin' interesting..

CHECK THIS OUT!

I hope you guys get a chance to watch tonight's new episode, where tattoo laser removal comes up, and Pixie and I actually go and get laser done.. well at least try... :)

Lemme know what you think..

xoxo,
Kat
